Simulation of Material Handling automation system that eliminates the need for human touchpoints and enhances hygiene
Challenge
- Client wanted to improve the hygiene of the material handling system. Conceptual design of an automated components’ unpacking system for feeding them to an assembly line to eliminate human touchpoints and improve hygiene
Our Solutions
We developed a conceptual design for an automated components’ unpacking system that eliminates the need for human touchpoints and enhances hygiene by
- Analyzed the existing state and envisioned the desired future state by assessing both upstream and downstream activities, resulting in the formulation of specifications for the automated line in the future state.
- Identified available off-the-shelf solutions and devised custom designs to effectively achieve the envisioned future state, including the removal of packing materials from the assembly line
- Identified and integrated AGVs for component transportation
- Validated conceptual design through trials using FlexSim
Results
- Provided a fully automated solution Just-In-Time supply to the assembly line.
- Automated handling of packing material for compacting and disposal.
- Overall equipment effectiveness improved.
- The automation of the system successfully eliminated manual errors and significantly improved system hygiene.
