Leveraging Industry 4.0 and Digital Twin for Virtual Commissioning of Heat Exchanger Coil SPM

Challenge

Traditional commissioning process of physical prototyping and testing delayed the production and time-to-market, impacting overall operational efficiency and customer responsiveness.
Required to support development of new variant using industry 4.0 & Digital Twin technology to support virtual commissioning of their machine during manufacturing

Our Solutions

  • We built the digital twin and enabled the mechatronics constrained model for virtual commissioning.
  • The mechanical model and the electronic are interconnected with NX-MCD & PLCSIM via TIA Portal.
  • The machine is virtually commissioned. The operation & performance of machine & machine software validated in the digital twin.
  • The commissioned program tested on the actual machine with an accuracy of 95%. The physical machine was then commissioned.

Results

  • Enabling Digital Twin for virtual commissioning let the customer validate the software during the machine manufacturing process.
  • The customer was able to deliver the machine on time with a reduced lead time from 6 months to 4 months.
  • Virtual commissioning through Digital Twin saved the customer about 20% of development cost and reduces 30% of product lead time
