Overcoming Inefficiencies with Flexible Templates for Model and Drawing Files

Challenge

The client faced lack of consistency in the design of upper and lower slides across different projects in absence of flexible templates which increased the risk of errors, rework, and potential product quality issues
They needed us to address the inefficiencies in creating HVAC model and drawing files for upper and lower slides

Our Solutions

  • We created a parametric part model in SolidWorks by creating and constraining sketches and linking all values in the model with equations based on feature operations.
  • A reference drawing file was provided with instructions on which values to change in the equations
  • Additionally, a drawing file was created to accompany the flexible master models
  • With this setup, when a designer changes values in the equations, a new part model and drawing can be easily obtained with minimal effort

Results

  • By using our master part model and drawing templates, the customer can create a part model with minimal inputs in the equations and obtain a corresponding part drawing with minimal adjustments to the top and front views.
  • This can reduce the overall time taken to create a part model and drawing by half compared to starting from scratch
